If you have music across separate folders, no worries-you can add multiple folders here. Now click the Browse for Media Folder button to locate your music folder. Click Music, choose a name for this music library, then click Next. On the Add Library pop-up window, you'll see several options. Hover your mouse over the server name, then click the plus button next to it. To do this, click the three horizontal line icon on the side of the screen to expand the sidebar. Now that Plex Media Server is running on your computer, it's time to add your music library to the server's configuration. Once complete, the installer will automatically launch the Plex Media Server software on your computer and open a browser window to let you access and configure your Plex Media Server. This is as straightforward as any other software installation-simply follow the installer prompts until the installation is complete. Run the installer to install Plex Media Server. Head to the Plex Media Server download page and download the installer for your operating system. Plex Media Server runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, FreeBSD, as well as a number of NAS platforms. For this article, we're going to assume you don't. If you already use Plex extensively, you probably already have a Plex Media Server set up and running. Step 1: Setting Up Plex Media ServerĪs mentioned above, you'll need a computer running Plex Media Server before you can use Plexamp. While that isn't as good as free, it's cheaper than any premium music streaming service-and you have all the flexibility in the world with it. What's the catch? Plexamp is only available to those who have an active Plex Pass subscription, which costs $5 per month. It even has smart playlist features similar to those you'd see in Spotify or Apple Music. Plexamp will synchronize your playlists, ratings, and more so that your streaming experience stays consistent even as you switch between devices. Plex Media Server can also stream movies and TV shows, but we're not going to cover that aspect in this article. This means you can have all your music on your computer and you can stream that music anywhere you go using Plexamp. Instead, it connects to Plex Media Server (which needs to be running on an internet-connected device in your home). Unlike most music player apps, Plexamp doesn't use a simple library of local music files. Not only does Plexamp have a beautiful interface that shows either album art or music visualizers as you're listening, it also boasts features like gapless playback, loudness leveling, and parametric equalizer. Plexamp is a music player app for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux-but to call it just a music player app would be doing it a disservice. ![]() In essence, Plexamp lets you create your own private Spotify-like music streaming service! What Is Plexamp? Explained Well, you actually can! It'll take a bit of work to set up, but with a Plex server running on your computer and the Plexamp app, you can stream your own music library wherever you go. Wouldn't it be great if you could take the music you already own and create your own private streaming service with it? ![]() This is especially true if you've already been buying digital music for years and have built up a huge collection of your own. ![]() Streaming services like Spotify are extremely convenient, but you may be against the idea of paying a monthly fee to listen to music (or dealing with ads and missing features on a free plan). ![]() ![]() ![]() The Shanghai Stock Exchange moved to a building of its own in December 1997 and would become the most important stock market in China, attracting blue-chip firms with proven performance and profitability. On July 15, 1991, the Exchange launched its first stock index. The Shanghai Stock Exchange restarted operations in the former Pujiang Hotel on the city’s waterfront and had computer terminals linked to other trading counters in the city and in cities around China. On December 19, 1990, the Shanghai Stock Exchange reopened, the same year as the development of the financial hub of East Shanghai (Pudong) started. In 1990, the People’s Bank of China authorized the establishment of two national stock exchanges in Shanghai and Shenzhen, making China the second socialist country to create a national stock exchange after Hungary. Acknowledging the importance of securities for the financial modernization of the country, the People’s Bank of China and the Ministry of Finance created an independent research group called the Stock Exchange Executive Council to formulate recommendations for the development of capital markets. The lack of securities laws greatly limited the size of stock and bond markets. Shanghai had a small stock-trading counter for cash purchases and sales and resales of government bonds, with prices determined by supply and demand. ![]() In April 1988, the Chinese government allowed open trading in national debt bonds. Soon, other markets followed in Beijing, Wuhan and Guangzhou. In August 1986, the People’s Bank of China established over-the-counter markets in Shanghai and Shenyang. The same stock could have different prices in different trading centers due to the lack of communication and information technologies. The trading of financial assets was also rare, with very few stocks and bonds listed in markets across China. Distributed by state-owned enterprises to employees, stocks did not represent ownership, but simply the promise of a dividend. However, the prices of equities were fixed by the Chinese government. ![]() In the 1980s, the issue and trading of securities in China restarted. The Exchange resumed operations in 1946 until the Communist revolution, and was liquidated by November 1950. The Shanghai Stock Exchange suspended operations on December 8, 1941, when the Japanese occupied the International Settlement. It was integrated with the New York Stock Exchange, with orders between the two cities realized via cable and radio in sixteen minutes in 1937. The Shanghai Stock Exchange was the largest equities market in Asia until the Communist revolution in 1949. Eventually, the two associations merged and formed the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 1928. Outside brokers formed another Stockbrokers Association in 1909 in Shanghai’s International Settlement. In 1904, the Association applied for company registration in Hong Kong and was renamed Shanghai Stock Exchange. In 1891, American, British and French businessmen founded the Shanghai Stock and Sharebrokers Association, the first stock trading organization in China. Securities trading in Shanghai went back to the late 1860s, when the shares of local and regional companies were listed in business newspapers. Situated midway down the Pacific Coast at the mouth of the Yangtze River, the port bustled with trade and capital flows. Since the mid-nineteenth century, Shanghai has been the most important financial center and cosmopolitan city of mainland China. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) surveys are a standard tool in helping to gather information about communities to help tailor that messaging ( 1). Public health messaging should be tailored to individual communities in order to maximize compliance with health protective behaviors and thereby increase the success of initiatives aimed at preventing the spread of mosquito-borne diseases (MBDs). ![]() Perceptions toward the city's role in mosquito control and education was an important factor in predicting PPMs, suggesting that city culture (attitudes common throughout the city as opposed to attitudes differing by ethnicity and neighborhood) may be most salient in developing public health messaging in San Antonio. We found that openness, agreeableness, and extraversion predicted certain attitudes and PPMs, and that KAP and personality measures did not differ along ethnic or neighborhood lines. The KAP survey was administered in three neighborhoods in San Antonio, a large, Hispanic-majority, urban city that is segregated economically and ecologically. Ours is only the second KAP study to take place in Texas despite known local transmission and established mosquito populations capable of transmitting dengue, zika, chikungunya, and West Nile viruses. KAP studies in Gulf-coast and Mexican border-states in the U.S. This is the first mosquito-related knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) study to incorporate a measure of personality using the Big Five: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the role personality might play in implementing personal protective measures (PPMs) that can prevent mosquito-borne diseases. Personality is known to affect compliance with health-protective behaviors and it has been shown that effective public health messaging can be informed by an understanding of that relationship. The first documented cases of organ toxicity from paracetamol were in Scotland in 1966. 3 The precise psychosocial factors behind this increase are unclear, but by the early 1970s admissions to hospital from patients deliberately ingesting aspirin and paracetamol had become a regular, problematic medical emergency. The profile of the epidemiology of poisoning changed over the next 40 years with poisoning becoming a common reason for emergency admission to hospital. 1,2 At that time presentations with poisoning, either accidental or from self-harm, were unusual in Europe. Introduction Paracetamol was introduced into clinical medicine in the 1950s as an antipyretic analgesic. We offer suggestions for improvements in the way NAC may be administered and outline new developments that should have major impacts on the way we manage paracetamol poisoning in the near future. This article examines the history of the development of NAC and recent developments in its use. The development of antidotes followed within 10 years, and by 1980 acetylcysteine (NAC) was acknowledged as the optimal therapy available. He spoke clearly and took the time to explain his thought processes, explaining that any mistakes he might make during the performance were due to his performance being live, and not pre-recorded, assuring the audience that his performance was genuine. Initially, I was so impressed with how humble and appreciative he was. The crowd was buzzing by the time Chet Faker came on stage. The pre-show was good, StarRo played a few tracks and got everyone bopping around before the main act. There was also a good, enthusiastic turnout, especially for a Monday night. Firstly, the venue was great, large and fitted out with seating surrounding the stage, which was great for those of us not keen on sitting on the stage floor. We were so fortunate to see Chet Faker play at the Commodore Bandroom, in Vancouver BC last night. ![]() Now he’s the red-bearded trailblazer leading the peloton of neo-soul genre benders and laying the foundations for the vast swathes of aspiring artists to come. He was already a recognised name despite not having had a full-length LP come out, a bedroom sampler who had risen to prominence with a little help from Web 2.0. Swelling net-popularity as well as collaborations with rising global stars, Flume and Kilo Kish, and remixes of The Temper Trap’s “Trembling Hands” and MR MS’s “Dark Doo Wop” had set the standard for Chet Faker. It is full of low, humming distortions, crackling, intercut samples and loops, and contrasting textures underpinning his crooning, affecting vocals. The album champions Faker’s pioneering R’n’B electronica crossover sound. “Built On Glass” shot to No.1 on the ARIA Charts within a week of its release and wooed international audiences with its single, "Talk Is Cheap". It was recorded at the Arts House Meat Market Studio in North Melbourne. In April 2014 he released his highly anticipated debut full-length album “Built On Glass” on the Future Classic label, which also put out his three track collaboration with wildcard Sydney DJ, Flume, the previous year. Its single, “I’m Into You” landed a spot on the 2012 Triple J Hottest 100 chart, coming in at a respectable No.24. He then released the “Thinking in Textures” EP to a warm reception from critics, who lauded its loungey, laconic intricacy and refinement. He rose to prominence in 2011 when a cover he had recorded of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" went viral online, having been smattered across a range of music blogs and rising up the ranks to be featured on music reviews sites and attaining the No.1 slot on the respected net-arbiter Hypemachine’s chart. Like Sohn, Oliver Tank, James Blake and Dawn Golden, amongst a teeming crowd of others, Chet Faker is an example of the electronification of the one man band, a Millennial phenomenon that casts a wide net and draws an eclectic haul from the edges and recesses of Electronic Dance Music. ![]() |
